· The rentprice Team

Princeton area apartment rents moved downward in the week ending August 17, 2026. Among the four major tracked communities, starting rents fell a median 1.5% week-over-week, with two complexes posting declines and two holding steady.

Avalon Princeton on Harrison saw the largest drop, down 12.5% to $2,346 per month. Woodmont Way at West Windsor declined more modestly, falling 1.5% to $2,670 per month—which remains the highest starting rent in the tracked set. Lofts at Princeton held flat at $2,429 per month, while The Mews at Princeton Junction remained at $2,278 per month, the lowest in the group.

Across the metro, current starting rents span a $392 range, from $2,278 to $2,670 monthly. The sharp weekly decline at Avalon Princeton suggests possible seasonal inventory adjustments or promotional activity, while stability at other properties reflects a mixed picture in the broader market.

Rent range and movement

Prospective renters in the Princeton area should expect starting rents between roughly $2,300 and $2,700 per month for tracked apartments. The week's median decline was modest, though the outsized drop at one location indicates pockets of downward pressure worth monitoring in coming weeks.
